Catching Up is Easy to Do!/Missionary Field Report:Liberia West Africa

At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
– Luke 10:21 (NIV)

Silvanus welcomes Jeania Jlay to our new literacy class in Bernards Farm. Jeania Jlay is of the Kru tribe of

Sinoe County, Pajibo Town. She is 18 years old, has no children and has never been to school. She is a fast learner and excited about the literacy class.

Currently we have three female students. Our classes are very personalized. Our textbooks are the Laubach Reading Skills series. We incorporate educational software in our lessons. The students are using Reken Test for Math and SpellQuizzer for spelling. We also use electronic puzzles and sequencing activities. The students have grasped the use of the software. Yet, they are still learning the words, i.e. ok, stop, play back, etc. They identify these buttons the same way they have survived all these years without knowing how to read, by location and color.

We close out each lesson with a bible lesson that is tailored to fit the textbook lesson for that day.

Classes are going well. Adult literacy students and their families require lots encouragement. Each student receives a home visit nearly weekly to encourage the students family to continue to encourage the student in the learning process.

Pray with us.

His Grace,
Sis Hattie
